Looking for the smallest ball bearing size for specific applications? We have got you covered!
BYWB Bearing offers a wide variety of bearings, including miniature ball bearings. We ensure you get the right kind of miniature bearings in high-quality material for your needs. Besides custom solutions, our bearings start at 3mm and go up to 12 mm. Choose from high-speed radial, radial retainer, thrust, angular contact, full ball complement, and pivot bearings.
Our ball bearings suit all commercial, industrial, and consumer requirements. You can select from various materials, including chrome steel, stainless steel, and ceramic ball bearings. The extensive variety of sizes, materials, and types allows you to choose the right ball bearing small size for the desired application. Our products are built to last and offer long-term usability without frequent replacements.
What is a Miniature Ball Bearing?
Miniature ball bearings are small bearings with balls. The bearings are called miniature because of their size. The outer diameter of these bearings is no more than 12.7 mm. The outside-to-inside diameter ratio is equal to or less than two. They are the smallest ball bearing type.
These bearings are also called micro bearings or instrument bearings. Some sizes may also range up to 20 mm and 1/8th of an inch in diameter. 0.0400 is the smallest ball bearing size required in unique applications because of its small size. However, you can find these bearings in various sizes within the range.
Where is the Miniature Ball Bearing?
Miniature ball bearings are typically used in tight spaces where you cannot use larger ball bearings. They perform the same function as standard-size ball bearings. These small bearings help reduce friction between parts that move independently without asking for a lot of space.
Utilization of small ball bearings generally includes smaller loads. However, they can take both radial and thrust loads. Miniature ball bearings are found in various pieces of equipment, including medical instruments and semiconductors. They are also used in robotic applications like human assist.
How Miniature Ball Bearing Works?
Small bearings help reduce the friction among freely moving parts in tight spaces. The bearing allows the machine to roll easily. As they reduce the friction, the parts move easily in a linear or rotational motion according to need. This eventually improves efficiency and speed.
The four main components and their functions in a ball bearing are:
Outer ring: It provides a pathway to the balls for movement and plays a supporting role
Inner ring: The inner ring is the rotating element that rotates with the axis
Balls: The balls are present between the inner and the outer ring
Retainer: It separates balls and prevents them from falling out
Lubricant: It reduces friction, prevents rust, and facilitates longer life
All these parts work together to ensure the miniature ball bearing works fine to boost efficiency. One of the rings is usually immovable and moves as the other rotates. The lubricant increases the ball bearing’s durability and smooth functioning.
The balls carry the weight of the load that pushes the bearing to rotate. The load can be radial or axial, and the thrust load. Most ball bearing small size work on one load at a time, but some might carry both axial and thrust loads. Thrust loads are linear loads that do not involve rotation. Radial loads put weight on the bearings, causing them to rotate.
What is The Miniature Ball Bearing Price?
The price of miniature ball bearings may depend on the size, material, and type. You can find miniature ball bearings between $3.50 and $20. Moreover, you can get them for lower prices when buying in bulk. The price for 50 pieces may range from $10 to $20 or more for 50 pieces of small ball bearing sizes, depending on the quality and build.

Types of Miniature Ball Bearings
Angular Contact Ball Bearings
The raceways of the inner and outer rings in angular contact ball bearings are displaced relative to each other in the direction of the bearing axis. So they can take radial and axial loads together. Angular contact ball bearings also act as retainers for lubricants. We have angular contact miniature ball bearings made from stainless steel, plastic, cadmium, or ceramic and plated with chrome, etc.
Thrust Ball Bearings
Thrust small bearings are specifically designed for axial loads and do not support radial loads. They are widely used in applications involving high speeds as they allow smooth operation. They can be single-directional or bi-directional.
High-Speed Radial Ball Bearings
High-speed radial ball bearings are a type of high-speed bearings that carry loads around their axis. The speed of these ball bearings must be equal to or more than 60 meters per second.
Full Ball Complement Bearings
These bearings have the outer and inner ring raceways filled to the maximum capacity with balls. It enables them to handle humongous radial and axial load but in one direction. The raceways have small cuts that allow the balls to be in a concentric position when aligned.
Pivot Ball Bearings
Pivot ball bearing small size comprises an outer ring and balls, and has a conical section, usually 60-degree on the rotating shaft, giving it the name. They have a smaller friction torque because of the ball’s smaller diameter and conical shape.

Conclusion
Miniature ball bearings are the smallest ball bearings used in semiconductor instruments and medical equipment. They are suitable for applications with less space for ball bearings. These are immensely small in size, as small as 3mm to as much as 20mm. Their diameter is typically 1/8th of an inch. However, besides being incredibly handy, these small ball bearing sizes offer vast utilization. You can choose miniature ball bearings in different materials and types, like angular contact, pivot, full ball complement, high-speed radial ball bearings, etc. Ball bearings are reasonable, and you can find them for $3.50 on average.
Apart from the standard miniature ball bearing sizes and built, we also offer OEM/ODM services. You can get bearings according to your preferences and requirements.
FAQ
What is The Application of Miniature Ball Bearings?
Miniature ball bearings are used in a variety of applications due to their small size and high precision. Here are some common applications:
Small Electric Motors: They are used a lot in small electric motors found in household appliances, power tools, and other devices where you need a really small bearing to fit in a tight spot and you need it to run smoothly.
Computer Peripherals: They are critical for the smooth and precise operation of computer peripherals such as disk drives, printers, and scanners.
Medical Equipment: They are used in all sorts of medical devices including dental tools, surgical instruments, and diagnostic equipment where you need high precision and reliability.
Automotive Components: They are used in various automotive applications including actuators, sensors, and small motors that control mirrors, seats, and windows.
Aerospace: They are used in aerospace applications for instruments and control mechanisms where low weight and reliability are critical.
Robotics: They are used a lot in robotics for joint and actuator mechanisms because they can handle both radial and axial loads efficiently while maintaining precision.
Toys and Hobbies: They are used in model trains, remote-controlled cars, drones, and other hobby equipment to make them perform better and last longer.
These bearings are used when you don’t have a lot of space but you can’t compromise on performance. They can handle both radial and axial loads and run at high speeds, making them perfect for many applications.
