Inch size ball bearings are used in various applications in numerous industries. We offer inch size ball bearings in multiple sizes and types to ensure you find the right fit for your needs. Whether you are looking for sealed, shielded, snap ring, or open inch series ball bearings, we’ve got you covered!
BYWB offers its customers various materials, size, and ball bearings. Suit the one that suits your needs the best or leverage our OEM/ ODM services.
What is an Inch Size Ball Bearing?
Inch size bearings refer to standard inch round bore sizes between 0.0937″ and 1.375″. They are among the most widely used deep groove ball bearings in numerous configurations. Inch sized ball bearings are manufactured according to the British Standard BS 292:1982 to match American and British machinery.
Choose from open, sealed on one size (-RS), sealed on both sides (-2RS), shielded on one size (-Z), shielded on both sides (-ZZ), and snap ring (NR) bearings. Standard inch series ball bearings suit moderate radial and thrust loads at low operating torque at high temperatures. Thus, they provide high performance with less wear and tear.
Why is BYWB the Right Choice for Inch Size Ball Bearings?

How Big is a Ball Bearing?
Ball bearings are small industrial components that fit into different machinery types to ensure smooth running. They reduce friction between different parts of a machine and allow long-term functioning.
6200 and 6300 series ball bearings are the most widely used and typically range from 10 x 30 x 9 mm to 150 x 320 x 65 mm in size. You can also find miniature ball bearings for spaces where you cannot use regular-sized ball bearings.
Ball bearings are important in automotive, transmission, agriculture, food and beverage industry, etc. Furthermore, ball bearing small size is used in medical equipment and semiconductors.
How to Measure Ball Bearing Size?
Usually, ball bearings have a code that acts as a representation code for the type and size of the ball bearing. However, they might get worn out over time and become less visible. In such a situation, it is always better to measure the ball bearings to avoid measurement issues.
The size of a ball bearing is determined by measuring its bore size or inner diameter (ID), outer diameter (OD), and width. The measurements are typically expressed in millimeters. When looking for inch ball bearings, you can also get measurements in inches.
You will need Vernier calipers or a digital micrometer to measure the ball bearings accurately. Here’s how ball bearings are measured:
The first step to measuring ball bearings is ensuring that your equipment is properly calibrated. Follow the instructions to calibrate your digital caliper or micrometer and remove zero errors.
Next, measure the inner diameter or bore size of the inch series ball bearings by placing them on a clean, flat surface. Insert the jaws or anvils of the instrument into the bearing’s bore. Make sure that the instrument is at a right angle to the bore to avoid wrong measurements. When you have the calipers or micrometer at the right angle, measure and note it. This gives you the inner diameter or bore size of the ball bearing.
Now, measure the outer diameter by placing the ball bearing on a flat surface and positioning the calipers or micrometer on the outer side of the ball bearing. Again, ensure the instrument is right-angled to get the correct reading. Measure the outer diameter of the ball bearing and record the measurement displayed on the micrometer or Vernier calipers.
Lastly, you need to measure the width of a ball bearing. Place the bearing on a flat surface and put the jaws or anvils of the measuring tool against opposite sides of the bearing. This value is the width of the ball bearing.
When you have the inner and outer diameter and width of the ball bearing, you can write the size of the inch size ball bearings as: ID x OD x W. The measurements can be written in millimeters or inches.
Ball Bearings Types
When buying inch series ball bearings, the choices are endless. You can choose from various materials, sizes, and types of ball bearings. Each type corresponds to specific thrust or radial loads and temperature. The most common types of ball bearings and their load capacities are:
Four-point Contact Ball Bearing
Four-point ball bearings appear to have four points on the inner side, giving them their name. Their inner ring is divided into two halves, resulting in the shape. Thus, these ball bearings support axial loads in both directions as well as radial loads. Four-point inch-size ball bearings are suitable for heavy weight and higher load capacities as they can endure more demanding environments.
Angular Contact Ball Bearing
Compared to regular cylindrical bearings, these ball bearings have a contact angle in the radial direction. Such ball bearings have three contact angles to endure high axial loads. Yet, you must always use angular contact ball bearings in pairs.
Duplex Angular Contact Ball Bearing
Duplex angular contact ball bearings are bearings paired together in a face-to-face, back-to-back, or tandem arrangement. Face-to-face and back-to-back duplex bearings support axial loads in both directions. Moreover, tandem duplex bearings bear more axial loads than single bearings.
Deep-Groove Ball Bearing
Deep-groove ball bearings are the most commonly used type of ball bearings with high-temperature tolerance and versatility. They have deep raceways with a radius slightly larger than the balls. These ball bearings are suitable for high radial capacity and axial loads in both directions and function at high temperatures.
Self-Aligning Ball Bearing
Self-aligning ball bearings have a double-row of balls with a double-row inner ring; the inner ring spins within the outer ring. Self-aligning roller bearings are more suitable for absorbing radial forces. They are also used when there are chances of deflection in a shaft.

Conclusion
Ball bearings are used globally to reduce friction between working parts and ensure smooth functioning. Inch size bearings refer to standard inch round bore sizes between 0.0937″ and 1.375″. Inch size ball bearings of different types, like deep-groove, angular contact, four-point contact, duplex angular contact, and self-aligning ball bearings, have versatile applications.
